Viewbank Guest House and Restaurant, Arran Details
stay
Viewbank House is a 19th century Victorian former farmhouse that has been tastefully converted and extended into a traditional family run guest house, whilst retaining all it's original character, charm and features. From it's elevated position over Whiting Bay, it enjoys superb panoramic views across the Firth of Clyde and Holy Isle to the Ayrshire coastline taking in both Troon and Turnberry on a clear day. Less than half a mile from the main village, local restaurants, pubs and shops, it is the ideal tranquil, peaceful and secluded location, without being too remote, for those relaxing "get away from it all" short breaks allowing you to fully unwind. It is also the perfect base for a more extended holiday to explore the hidden treasures of the island. They welcome walkers and golfers with Whiting Bay golf course just a short stroll away - discounts on day tickets usually available for residents at Viewbank.
sleep
All seven rooms are extremely comfortable and well appointed. All have hair dryers and hospitality trays. Five have their own en-suite facilities, two of which are on the ground floor and therefore ideal for disabled guests. Three of these rooms also adapt for family or twin bedded rooms as required. A further double and a single room have shared bathroom and two toilets.
eat/drink
The dining room is very tastefully furnished in pine where personal attention and good food is assured. The hearty full Scottish Breakfast will be just the right start to the day before you explore the island.
play
Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn - guests will feel comfortable whatever the season. The warm, cosy guest lounge has television, video, CD player and a piano as well as a selection of books and games.
location
Arran is accessible by two ferry routes, by taking the 'MV Caledonian Isles' (Capacity: 120 cars & 1000 passengers) from Ardrossan to Brodick, or by the smaller ferry operating between Claonaig and Lochranza at the North end of the island in Summer (Winter timetable is via Tarbet to Lochranza). There is a regular direct train service between Glasgow and Ardrossan Harbour. If coming to Arran by car via Ardrossan it is strongly advisable to book in advance, (Ardrossan-Brodick service only).
Whiting Bay is just 8 miles south of Brodick. Turn left at Brodick pier and continue through Lamlash and into the village of Whiting Bay. Continue through the village, at the 'Coffee Pot' look for the brown tourist board sign for "Viewbank House" and turn right onto 'Golf Course Road'. Take this road up the hill for 1/2 mile, following the signs for the golf club and "Viewbank House". "Viewbank House" is situated 200 yards before the golf course. There is a regular bus service through to Whiting Bay from the Ferry - ask to be dropped off at the "Coffee Pot" cafe.
