Ice Hotel, Lapland Sweden

This year will see the construction of the 20th Ice Hotel ever to be built in the town of Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. Each winter in this small town (population under 1000) there is a swarm of ice artists, snow builders and architects from all over the world who join together to create a hotel made almost entirely of ice. It is one of the biggest building projects to be under taken each year. Probably the best time to go is in December, when the hotel is still taking shape and visitors have the chance to observe the mind boggling effort that goes into creating such a place.

The Ice Hotel is not somewhere you visit if you are looking for a convenient, comfortable place to stay whilst on holiday... It is the holiday. It's all about the experience of sleeping in a beautifully designed room carved from ice and snow - basically it's one big art exhibit! There are also specially designed 'warm rooms' made from timber, for those who cannot handle the minus 5 degree climate and also of course, there's an Ice Bar!!!.

If you are planning to visit Lapland, this is something that will no doubt leave a life-long impression and make a great story!
