George is one of the larger towns on the Garden Route, South Africa and is set below the tranquil Outeniqua Mountain range. Being situated just 420kms from Cape Town and 320kms from Port Elizabeth, George is a favourite for holiday accommodation for those travelling along and exploring the beautiful Garden Route.

George is an easy-going town, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy nature at its best. Aside from leisure and relaxation, there are an abundance of activities for the more adventurous traveller.   • Great Brak Grabadoo December 2014

    2014 marks the 12th annual Great Brak Grabadoo which will take place on 31 December 2014.

    The Grabadoo is hosted around Great Brak Rivier in the Garden Route and has an average 1000 participants, making it easily the biggest cycle race in the Southern Cape for this time of the year.  The event is a great training opportunity for the Argus and a must for all those cycling enthusiasts!

    The mountain bikers can choose 15, 31, 42 or even 66km routes, which meander through picturesque areas around Great Brak River. The small towns surrounding make for some breathtaking scenery and could not be a better route for this popular event.



    Entry fees for the specific routes vary - Please enquire with the organisers. Pre-race entries can be done on 30 December at the Peperboom Restaurant in Great Brak River.

  • Vodacom George Cheese Festival July 2014

    The 12th Vodacom George Cheese Festival was run from the 25th to the 27th of July 2014 and was be held at the famous Outeniqua Park Rugby Stadium.

    This exciting event offers a great programme for the whole family! There is a kids zone where parents can rest assured their children will be safe and happy, numerous food and beer tents and of course, a whole lot of cheese. The Festival kicked off with Barnyard's show "Strictly Number 1's" where artists like Barry Hilton, Kobus Muller and Joe Nobody were performing.

    With about 50 different food and wine exhibitors and the famous "pairing" workshops with wine, port, whisky and beer, the festival always promises to be a great event. All tickets include various live music.


  • Nestle Ice Cream and Strawberry Festival September 2014

    A fun family event consisting of great food, freinds, music and a whole lot of strawberries! Over a weekend in September.

    Redberry Farm in George, Garden Route is the host of the Nestlé Ice Cream Strawberry Festival. This event is a must for the whole family!

    Surrounded by the beautiful Outeniqua Mountains, the Nestlé Ice Cream Strawberry Festival showcases the Garden Route and Western Cape in a fun and exciting way. There were more than 60 stalls at which good food, wine and cheese couyld be enjoyed. A variety of arts and crafts was be on display and for sale, for those wanting a souvenir. The beer tent for the adults and a great play area for the little ones, making the festival a perfect day out.

    Different estates host berry and wine pairings, and acclaimed South African singer, Lianie May, sang at 2014 Festival. The program also has eating competitions, sports events and live radio coverage to make the Nestlé Ice Cream Strawberry Festival one to be remembered.

    Entrance fees are R25 per adult on Saturday and R35 per adult on Sunday. Children under 12 years of age are R15 on both days. 2014 fees.
