  • Maspalomas International Football Tournament January

The prestigious International Football Tournament of Maspalomas takes place each winter in early January, dates for 2017 to be announced. Famous teams to have taken part include Ajax and Bayer Leverkusen.

The inaugural tournament was held in 1984 and the eventual winners were PSV Eindhoven. Since then the event has gone from strength to strength and continues to attract many top European teams that use it as a winter training opportunity. Perhaps one day UK teams will be involved, if they are ever granted a winter break!

The tournament is not well publicised, so many visitors are unaware that there is quality football just a few minutes from the resort.

Some of the teams that have taken part over the years include PSV Eindhoven, Ajax, Feyenoord, Anderlecht, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburg, Hertha Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt, Schalke 04, Brondby, Rosenborg, Sturm Graz and Galatasaray.

So why not combine your relaxing winter break with this football extravaganza at one of our many hotels in the Maspalomas area such as the Augustino Bungalows, Aparthotel Buenos Aires or the magnificent 5 Star Bohemia Suites & Spa. How about a football inspired 'stag do' perhaps!
