Knysna is a popular destination for tourists in the Garden Route, South Africa, due to the warm climate it offers. It has one of the richest rainfall percentages in South Africa and thus stays green all year round. The 17 kilometre long expanse of the Knysna Lagoon is home to an abundance of bird and wildlife, running into the famous Knysna Heads, where many ships have met their end. Indigenous forests and lush fauna and flora encompass a large part of Knysna, making it an ideal place for the avid explorer.

    Four exciting events provide entertainment for both participants and spectators and challenges for the whole family! 


    SPLASH MUD RUN is a feast of mud and obstacles for all ages 8-99.

    Watch your yellow duck race in the SPLASH QUACK ATTACK.

    If you prefer to pit your paddling skills against other teams in the SPLASH DRAGON BOAT RACES and win the sought after Dragon Trophy.

  • Garden Route 300 27 February 2015

    The Garden Route 300 will take place from the 27th of February to the 1st of March 2015!

    The Garden Route 300 has become one of the most participated cycling events on the Garden Route. Taking place from the 27th of Feb to the 1st of March 2015, this is a race every cyclist anticipates. Three days of breathtaking views and some unbelievable track, be sure to book your place sooner rather than later!

  • Knysna Splash December 2014

    The Knysna Splash is the Garden Route’s very own family orientated festival and will take place from the 19th to the 21st of December 2014. As the name may imply the four main activities will take place in and around the Knysna lagoon. Read on for a breakdown of the exciting activities!

    Splash Mud Run 19th December 2014

    Taking place at Loerie and Cathy parks off George Rex Drive, participants need to register at 9.00am and be ready to get a little muddy! This is a great way to let your hair down and have some not so clean fun. At the end of the race firemen will be waiting to hose you down! Just remember to bring a towel.

    Splash Knysna Lagoon Mile 20th December 2014

    The Knysna Mile is divided into two categories, the mile swim (1600m) and the junior swim (450m). Starting at 14.30pm from the Knysna Yacht Club, this race is a lot of fun for young and old alike. Be sure to register from about 10.30.

    Splash Quack Attack 20th December 2014

    We can’t think of a better sight than watching up to 1000 ducks race against each other as their owners stand and cheer the little duckies on! The race will start at 16.00pm at the Knysna Waterfront with some great prizes up for grabs. Ducks are all numbered and can be purchased for R20 from the Knysna Mall and the Knysna Waterfront from the 13th of December.

    Splash Dragon Boat Race 21st December 2014

    Get a team together and head out for an exciting race using traditional Chinese style dragon boats. Each boat will have a crew of 10 and be decorated with flair. There are two categories for the race, one for those wanting to have a relaxed and fun race, and the other for those who are ready for a little competition! Races will start on Thesen Island, next to Sirocco, at 10.00am for the first heat and continue mid afternoon.

  • Knysna Literary Festival March

    Current affairs, politics, history, adventure, mystery and a dash of cuisine – are the themes of the year’s Knysna Literary Festival. It is all about exposing locals and visitors to our South African Literary talent. Keep the date's open 18th - 22nd March 2015

    The Festival has grown in stature over the past few years and is now regarded as a major attraction on the Garden Route calendar. The festival was launched in 2010 by Ling Dobson of Pam Golding Properties Knysna and aims to promote our rich literary heritage.

    Authors who have participated in past events include crime writer Deon Meyer (7 Days), Adriaan Basson (Zuma Exposed), Mandy Wiener (Killing Kebble), McIntosh Polela (My Father, My Monster) and other award-winning authors such as Mike Nicol, Riaan Manser, Shaka Sisulu, Rahla Xenopolous, Ingrid de Kok, Margie Orford and Olympian Ryk Neethling.

    The Festival’s goal is not only to expose locals and visitors alike to South Africa's literary talent, but also to stimulate the children of the greater Knysna area by encouraging reading and writing. The festival is growing every year; with audiences of approximately 1 000 learners attended the children’s theatre. The young writers’ competition attracted entries in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa, and is extending to a wider range of rural schools yearly. 

     ‘Local is lekker’ underlies the organiser’s philosophy, with catering, sound/video equipment, transport services, PR/Marketing/Social Media, Website/Design work, all sourced from within Knysna.

This colourful, rich festival celebrates the Rastafarian way of life - their food and music, as well as the philosophy behind this sometimes misunderstood faith.

    The annual Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is one of South Africa’s most popular festivals with huge appeal for sports lovers, families is one of the top Lifestyle Festivals in South Africa. 
    The Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, which takes place in July annually. Situated in the scenic Garden Route, the fiesta offers a smorgasbord of events and activities for foodies, families, athletes and everyone in between.

    Event get to be even bigger and better every year with more than 100 things to do on the programme, including new additions like a night cycle, Woodmill Lane’s Wood Art Exhibition and the first a Comedy Festival. Of course, the mouth-watering molluscs still remain the main attraction, and patrons can get their fill of the shellfish prepared in various creative ways at a steal of a price at numerous ‘Oyster Hotspots’.
