hotel critic: harrison brown - "They washed my car!" .. continued
This hotel had the potential to make a big impression. It is owned by a progressive group and is located on the banks of the Thames River opposite Westminster and Big Ben. On arrival I was impressed but its size and immediately realised this had the makings of a popular corporate hotel. Large lobby with hotel reception, also including the check in desk for Plaza On The River Suites. During my stay the staff were great, professional and attentive all the time. Rooms are very comfortable and well appointed, decorated to a good modern standard with all you would expect from a four star business hotel. The views of the river and Big Ben from room 743 (Executive Room) on the 7th floor are superb through the floor to ceiling windows. Just remember to close the curtains at night or you to will be waking with the early morning light rather than your alarm clock!
The Executive rooms are located near the top of the 11 floor hotel and have access to an Executive Lounge at any time of the day. A buffet breakfast is served each morning and complimentary cocktails and canapés each night from 6 to 8pm. More like an airport lounge than an intimate lounge area, I preferred the lobby bar for comfort, style and cocktails. The hotel restaurant Chino Latino was a doorway away and a superb choice for dining. A relaxed atmosphere serving Sushi and Sashimi delights. Struggling with the menu, our waiter quickly rescued us and made some wonderful selections. Guys, it’s worth asking for help!
Overall a very pleasant experience. My car was valet parked (£26 for 24 hours) and I even had it washed for another £15+ tip, even though that is not a service they regularly offer. However beware, rooms located on lower floors at the rear of the hotel overlook a 6 line rail yard. The line does not seem to receive fast trains however you may hear some noise from lower rooms. My advice is to request a higher floor or river facing room, just in case. River facing rooms may be levied with an extra £25 charge, but I think well worth the money. Also, the hotel also has smoking rooms on floors 4 and 5 floors. Please make mention of these requests in the comments box on your reservation form.
