Library Hotel New York Details

stay

The Library Hotel in New York City is the first hotel ever to offer its guest over 6,000 volumes organized throughout the hotel by the Dewy Decimal System.* Each of the 10 guestrooms floors honors one of the 10 categories of the DDC and each of the 60 rooms is uniquely adorned with a collection of books and art exploring a distinctive topic within the category or floor it belongs to.

The Library Hotel is conveniently located on Madison Avenue and 41st Street, also known as Library Way, just steps away from the majestic New York Public Library, Bryant Park, Pierpont Morgan Library, the exquisitely renovated Grand Central Terminal and all that Midtown Manhattan has to offer.

Designed to feel more like a private club than a hotel, each of the Library's richly appointed accommodations are individually adorned with art and a collection of books that relate to the room's unique theme. Each of the ten guestroom floors of the Library is dedicated to one of the ten major categories of the Dewey Decimal System*: Social Sciences, Literature, Languages, History, Math & Science, General Knowledge, Technology, Philosophy, The Arts and Religion. Each of the sixty exquisitely appointed accommodations have been individually adorned with a collection of art and books relevant to one distinctive topic within the category of floor it belongs to. Choose your favorite or explore the unique delights of each room, one visit at a time.

*Dewy Decimal System

*General Info on Dewy Decimal System - Most library users know the general structure of Melvil Dewey's decimal classification. First published in 1876, the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC)* divides knowledge into ten main classes, with further subdivisions. More than 200,000 libraries in 135 countries use the Dewy Decimal System to organize their book collections. Its simple and logical framework is based on the principle of decimal fractions as class marks, which are expandable to make further subdivisions.
