Geocaching is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, and Edinburgh is a hotspot for this fun past-time. For those of you who haven’t heard of geocaching, it’s like an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. ‘Geocachers’ navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. There are a loads of geocache sites round Edinburgh and you can find some of them below. Happy geocaching.
We recommend that you register at www.geocaching.com to get the co-ordinates of the geocache sites around Edinburgh & The Lothians – there are hundreds out there. The site is free to register with and easy to use.
Geocaching is a fantastic way to see a city and to discover parts that traditional visitors would never see. The hunt will take you to historical sites, and not so historical sights, around Scotland’s capital. It’s great fun for children as well. There are often riddles and codes that need to be solved before you can find the geocache. Give geochaching a go, it’s great fun.
