Edinburgh Hotel Review – Ibis Edinburgh Centre

The IBIS Edinburgh Centre is right bang in the middle of Edinburgh’s gorgeous Old Town.

This 2-star hotel, with 99 rooms (6 adapted for disabled guests), is only 30metres from the historic Royal Mile. Read on to learn more about the inside of the hotel.

If you are aware that you have booked a 2-star hotel you will be pleasantly surprised at the quality standards as you enter the Ibis Edinburgh Centre. The reception area, bar and lounge are all bright, modern, and warm (with a nice touch of tartan). You will find the staff are extremely courteous and obliging. As a chain hotel it reaches the standard levels you would expect, and then some.

Ibis Edinburgh Centre: Warm Reception Area, With A Touch Of Tartan

The bedrooms and bathrooms are compact but clean and smart. Connecting rooms are available if you would prefer to be a bit closer to your travel partners. There are no baths, only showers. To use a hairdryer you’ll need to nip down to reception to borrow one. Basic staellite TV is available in the rooms, with pay options for movies. WiFi is available but you will have to pay extra. Beds are not wide or luxurious but comfy enough.

The hotel’s location is ideal if after a long morning of sightseeing you like to nip back to the hotel for a nap or to relax. It’s only about 10 mins walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station to the hotel. Plus, the Ibis is only about 1km from the Edinburgh International Conference Centre so great for the corporate traveller too.

You may be able to park out on the street, which is free during the evening and night time but expensive and limited through the day. There is an NCP car park just around the corner.

If you go for the breakfast option you will be treated to a well prepared, varied and generous buffet that will keep you going well past lunch time. Breakfast is served between 6.30 and 10 am. Breakfast is extra on most room rates.

There are a few rooms that over look Hunter Square outside which may be too noisy for some, but perfect in summer if you want to watch festival performers from your own bedroom window. Rooms on the 6th floor offer great views over the city.

The hotel welcomes groups with open arms. It’s a great hotel for party groups as the bar will stay open all night, as long as you are curteous and generous to the bar staff. The bar serves a selection of beers, wines and spirits as well as light meals and snacks 24 hours a day.

Ibis Edinburgh Centre: Twin Room

To summarise, the Ibis Edinburgh Centre is in a fantastic location and the room rates are very reasonable. The rooms are not fancy but clean and modern. The hotel is a great place to be based and the friendly staff will make you stay even more pleasant.

The Ibis Edinburgh City is the probably the best 2-Star hotel you will ever stay in.
